Ku Wei, former VP of Ali Group, has been appointed as the COO of DingTalk, an Alibaba-backed all-in-one workplace mobile platform. Ku is responsible for the key account strategy and is expected to improve the unit’s ability to serve big corporate clients and speed up its commercialisation process.

DingTalk serves over 5 million enterprises and organisations globally. Its primary focus over the past seven years has been commercialisation and advancing the business. This is where Ku comes in. With his great experiences and achievement in marketing with high-profile companies, including China Unicom, Tmall, and Alibaba, Ku is thought to be a strategic addition to the ambitious platform.

Prior to the new role with DingTalk, Ku was in charge of Ali Cloud’s services for big corporate clients, which aligns well with DingTalk’s practices with mainly medium and small firms. Ali Cloud’s integration with DingTalk in 2020 has also generated some positive outcomes. Over the past 6 months, around 40-50 top clients of Ali cloud, such as Country Garden Holdings, have started using DingTalk.

So far, all the efforts have worked towards a direction set by Ye Jun, President of DingTalk. Last year Ye emphasised a new strategy in which the user’s use time, the enterprise’s use depth, and the use of multiple business systems or software are the platform’s new value indicators, in addition to user scale. He believes that depth is now the key to a new chapter of the promising platform.
